A Ring That Tells a Family Story
One of the things I love most about making jewellery is seeing how a client’s collection slowly grows over time. Each piece builds on the last, and together they tell such a personal story.
Recently, I finished a yellow gold ring for a client I’ve been lucky enough to work with in the past. At the heart of the design is an aquamarine, to represent her child’s birthstone, complimented by diamonds. I made the aquamarine the focal point. Framed and set by the yellow gold in the same vintage style as the engagement ring it will sit next to.
What makes this piece extra special is how it connects to her other rings. A few years ago, I made a fitted wedding band to sit snugly beside her vintage engagement ring. This new aquamarine and diamond ring was shaped with that same care, designed to nestle in alongside them so the three sit beautifully together.
For me, this is what jewellery is really about. Not just the gold or the stones, but the meaning they hold and the way they weave into someone’s life. Every time she looks down at her hand, she’ll see not only her engagement and marriage, but also the sparkle of her child’s birthstone. And I think that’s the kind of story worth telling in gold.
